What is Core Energetics?

Core Energetics is an energy and consciousness-oriented body psychotherapy integrating the physical body, mind, emotions and spirit. Human connection—the need for unity versus separation—is the focus of Core therapeutic work. Core Energetics allows participants to open the door, journey home, and uncover their personal truth, passion, power and innermost feelings. This process of inner healing involves opening blocked energies held in the body and integrating them with mind and spirit. To achieve this, Core exercises use breath and emotion with sound and movement to express the life force making available the energy of one’s unique spirit in all aspects of life.

Core Energetics moves beyond the common goals of therapy. It establishes a unified and holistic process that connects the mind, emotions, will, body and spiritual self into a whole, which expresses the total reality of a person.

Often the deep inner processes of a person are not recognized, and that is why—even after centuries of body work and meditation and practice in other disciplines—people still suffer, and feel empty and unfulfilled. Often the unconscious, blocked energy in conjunction with contextual situations, which are represented in the emotional state of the body, has not been connected and unified with the flow of energy. The understanding of these processes, and their integration, is one of the unique teachings of Core Energetics as well as a personal experiential experience.

The philosophical vision of Core Energetics is to support individuals and groups in order to transform the energy blocks, and emotional and spiritual obstacles which block the client’s contact with their own Core or unique spirit. The Core is the source of all healing, wisdom, joy and creativity. The Core experience works and is open to individuals and couples of all ages and professions who are seeking profound change and personal growth.

Where Did Core Energetics Come From?

The concept of the Core Energetic process was created by Dr. John C. Pierrokos. It took John his lifetime and was created in stages over many years. John work with Wilhim Reich began the process. He initially incorporated many basic Reichian concepts in his own private practice of traditional analysis. He then went on to create Bioenergetics with Alexander Lowen, M.D.). Together they began the first body psychotherapy and also utilized insights from modern physics, the evolutionary path of many physical, mental and spiritual experiences, as well as the inspiring lectures delivered by Eva Pierrokos, which expanded into the process called The Pathwork. As a result there is a core institute in New York City, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, Australia, Switzerland and the south of France, as well as Core LA. Almost all the institutes offer training and certification in this unique mind, body and spiritual form of psychotherapy.

More About Core

Core Energetics is a deep transformational process that addresses five levels of existence in the human being. These levels are:

Core Energetics works simultaneously on all these levels of existence. The evolution of the personality depends on systematically working with, transforming, and integrating the Spiritual Self on the five levels illustrated above. Core Energetics does not separate and specialize in only one level but instead considers unifying the whole being.

Core Energetics is experienced through varying levels of energy and consciousness. The energy is the living force that emanates from each level of consciousness. The main characteristics of the life energy are: pulsation, motility, rhythm, abundance, flexibility, and malleability. Our consciousness becomes the sculptor of the plastic, abundant and benign properties of these energy fields by sculpting the shape of the body and performing the individual experiment of the human existence.

Thus, the physical body is the laboratory of life and the vehicle through which we express our emotions, thoughts and spiritual self. Striking information is revealed by the physical structure. By working with the body, which carries defensive reactions of our emotions, we open up the way to the core energetic functions. Our bodies are the most wonderful instruments for our evolutionary process. The focus here is on releasing the life energy held within our systems as a way to touch the essence of our being or core.

At first, group participants work a great deal with their bodies to expand and free their energies. Enlarging the consciousness relies heavily on analyzing the body processes, the feelings, the underlying emotions and holding patterns, and the interconnections among these as expressed in the character of each member. The program facilitates each participant's search for his or her own individual truth, which is the source and greatest resource of one's work as a therapist.

How Core Works

The flow of living energy in the organism is integral to the organism. That means that diagnosis and treatment must look for the effects of blocking energy not only where the dysfunction is occurring, but on all the human operational planes: the physical, the emotional, the mental and the spiritual, and in both the conscious and unconscious domains. Spiritual life does not flower until a person's energies can flow fairly freely from and into the core.

The first phase in the Core Energetic process is to penetrate the individual masks we have created to protect ourselves. The work confronts the mask for what it is: a counterfeit of inner reality. Self-observation with the help of the therapist uncovers the obvious distortions in the system and its functioning.

The second phase concentrates on the energy held in the primal negativities and on how those negativities distort reality and shape our life view.

The process during these two phases includes deep breathing, active body movements and vocalizing to support the _expression of emotions. The participants learn to understand the meaning of the energy blocks and their role in limiting the flow of feeling by observing what is expressed by the body as a person speaks, breathes, and moves voluntarily and involuntarily

The third phase of the work is deepening the trust in the core energy. Here we can unify dualities that appear to be conflicts.

The creative potential of our life energy is tremendous. There is instantaneous knowledge of what the truth is, in the now, without duality.

The fourth phase of Core Energetic therapy, inward and outward, calls on the person to trust the environment—the whole universe—as the setting for his or her individual growth. The core reaches for infinity. This is not a metaphor. In terms of the mass of a person's energy, the repercussions of its outward movements have no end, according to the theory of the expanding universe, just as the energy surrounding it has no practical exhaustion point. The First Year acquaints you with the basic concepts of energy and consciousness and how they relate to the process of therapy.

This holistic approach focuses on both the unconscious involuntary processes and the conscious voluntary aspects. The involuntary processes are expressed in life through the pulsations of energy streaming through the body. When this streaming is allowed to continue, the person experiences a vibration and resonance in the whole organism, which helps to integrate the conscious with the unconscious. The exploration seeks to discover the emotional and physical defense patterns expressed in the person's process.

Even after centuries of body work and meditation and the practice of other disciplines, people still suffer, unfulfilled, because these defense patterns have not been recognized. The unconscious movements and the contextual situation, which are represented in the emotional state of the body have not been connected and unified with the increased flow of energy. The understanding of these processes and their integration is one of the unique teachings.

The fourth year will focus on professionalization: to enable you to fully embody the concepts and practical approach of the Core Energetic Process. Students begin to develop their individual and unique strengths as Core Energetic therapists.

Focus of study: Personal Goals of Students • Grounding in Technique • Analysis and Strategy • Case Presentations • How to Deal with Crisis and Resistance • Group Therapy • Toward a Holistic Synthesis • Other Dimensions of Energy in the Context of Healing

Why Do Core Energetics?

The human being possesses an unlimited capacity for expansion of consciousness. To the degree that we fail to reach fulfillment, we have to understand that we withhold the flow of positive energy and consciousness, which is the essence of the core.

As we increase our awareness of these inner forces, we also increase our capacity to understand life and to take charge of these inner forces. In this way, we begin to change the quality of our lives and we move beyond the goals of therapy. We establish a unified and holistic process that connects the mind, the emotions, the body, and the spiritual self into a unified whole which expresses the total reality of the person.
